Working together helps children develop positive habits and the skills they need to become safe and responsible digital citizens. To complement what children are learning in school and support a shared approach to developing responsible digital citizens, parents can use the following supports:

  • Set up safe access at home: use child-friendly settings, filters and parental controls on devices where possible

  • Use agreed educational websites and apps: focus on teacher-recommended platforms that support literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

  • Encourage balanced screen time: support a healthy routine that includes offline play, reading and physical activity

  • Co-view and co-play: where possible, use digital tools with your child to support learning and discussion

  • Talk about online safety: discuss kindness online, sharing information safely and what to do if something feels uncomfortable

  • Support independence gradually: help children build confidence using devices appropriately and responsibly over time

  • Communicate with the school: stay informed about the apps, websites and tools being used so home and school learning are connected
