DigiDuck - Junior & Senior Infants

DigiDuck is a series of stories developed by the Childnet to help young children (ages 3–7) learn about online safety and digital citizenship. We use these stories with children in Junior and Senior Infants to support the teaching of digital literacy in a fun, age-appropriate way through storytelling and discussion.

Through DigiDuck, children learn how to be kind and respectful online, keep personal information private, think carefully about what they see and share, and to tell a trusted adult if something worries them. The stories also promote important skills such as empathy, problem-solving and making good choices online. This learning aligns with the Primary Curriculum in Ireland, particularly the development of children as digital learners, helping them to become safe, confident and responsible users of technology from an early age.

'Buddy The Dog' - Junior & Senior Infants

In Junior and Senior Infants, we use the “Buddy the Dog” Internet Safety Song at the start of every mini-laptop session. The song teaches children to seek help from trusted adults and maintain a positive, open line of communication when using digital devices.

It is sung to the tune of 'Freres Jacques'. You can support this at home by reminding your child to ask for help when using devices if something pops up on a screen they are unsure about or feel unsafe with.

HTML Heroes - 1st & 2nd Class

HTML Heroes, created Webwise, is designed for children in 1st and 2nd Class to build on the digital citizenship foundations introduced through DigiDuck in Junior and Senior Infants. Through interactive games and activities, children learn to be kind and respectful online, protect personal information, recognize safe websites, and seek help from trusted adults when needed.

The program reinforces key digital literacy skills, helping children make thoughtful, safe choices online. It aligns with the Primary Curriculum in Ireland, supporting children as confident digital learners and extending the development of safe, responsible, and positive habits with technology as they progress through school.

'Stop - Think - Check' Rap - 1st & 2nd Class

As part of the Webwise HTML Heroes programme, children in 1st and 2nd class learn how to stay safe online using the “Stop, Think, Check” rap:

  • Stop – Pause before clicking or sharing

  • Think – Is it safe, true, and kind?

  • Check – Ask a trusted adult if unsure

This simple approach helps children build safe and respectful online habits. You can support this at home by reminding your child to “Stop, Think, Check” when using devices. is is available to watch on the Webwise YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQkN6z8cNQc
